How do you feel about New Orleans having it's Mardi gras celebration in the aftermath of the hurricane?

Do you feel that they are doing the right thing by trying to intice tourists to return this soon after the disatser occured?

MARDI GRAS

And, since it's "fat tuesday" I'll just ask if any of you do the lent thang (since it starts wednesday)

What happens to a catholic that eats fried fish without a shirt on?

OK, I'll go first!

I think they are doing the right thing by having the celebration. Not just for the tourist dollars and to show that New orleans is still a viable vacation spot but for their own personal reasons. They needed something to show that they are carying on a moving forward. Yes, there is still a ton of work to be done and there are people still displaced from their homes, but this is not a slap in their faces (in my opinion) this is something they can also look to as a sign of hope for the city as it rebuilds itself in the aftermath of the hurricane.
Generally, a party can be used to brighten people's spirits.
And Mardi Gras to me, seems like something that does a pretty good job of that.
Party on New Orleans, and make sure you take the time to remember that much is still to be done, but that this is the first major sign of progress being made.

C'mon, who doesnt like a party?

I have a suggestion...

How about we acknowledge that Lent is retarded.

Oh yeah, that lent thang.

I'm not a religous person, but I thought I'd offer a bit of help for those who dont like fish. (especially those with kids who dont like fish)

PB&J
Grilled Cheese (maybe with some 'mater soup)
'Sketti
Veggie soup
Spud soup
black bean soup
Smackaroni and cheese
Meatless "za
Beans and rice
rice and beans
salads (hit one of those in store salad bars and load it up with goodies)
Fruit maybe with some cheese
Portobello sammi's
veggie burgers
Eggs (although I question eggs as an option unless you allow chicken to be one as well )
Pancakes and/or waffles or french toast
Bagels
Anyone else have any ideas?
